Well, that was fun!
I recently had my first experience of being on live TV… and actually really enjoyed it.
On Level 3 results day (A-Level, BTEC, T-Levels) – I was delighted to be able to share some thoughts for students, parents and those who support them on what next, after receiving results (acknowledging those who may have been disappointed with their results)
It was brilliant to have a speedy, yet hopefully insightful, conversation with the impressive (and very welcoming) Luxmy Gopal on BBC London News.
It feels like a full circle moment in my career as:
– Being a (broadcast) journalist was my career goal throughout school and most of uni
– I went on to do an International Journalism Masters at Cardiff University (even getting special permission to add a video to my written dissertation submission).
– I briefly worked in PR & Communications at BBC World (TV) in my early career, even occasionally giving tours of the newsrooms in TVC when it was in White City – when we had visitors
So to return to the BBC on radio (my first love) and TV – among the nerves and the excitement, it was a moment of reflection.
The career coach in me wants to share this both for the content of the 2 minute clip but also share the background as an example of how early and throughout your career you never know how your skills, interests and passions will converge. It truly was a culmination of interest and experience, as well as a network who believes in me (Thanks again to Juliet Alexander for recommending me as a guest) which led to this moment.
If the 2 minutes of TV…
… and 7 minutes on radio shared last week…
… isn’t quite enough. Fear not. The new season of my Dive Into Your Career podcast (created with students and graduates in mind) will be returning shortly so do subscribe for more content to support your career development.
Again, cheering on those navigating their post A-Level, BTEC, T-Level results. Remember to lean into your school and / or qualified careers guidance professionals for support if needed.
